Steadfast Networks

MicroGuy | January 22, 2009

Finally! After an exhaustive 48-hour search for a shared web-host, I have found hosting nirvana.  The control panel is great, price is reasonable, and the reviews outstanding. This will be my shared-hosting solution for 2009. Got to run, setting up a few sites now. Read more reviews.

Update! After further tests, I’ve decided that MediaTemple is the best web hosting service on the Internet. Try Media Temple today!

Godaddy Grid Hosting Nightmare

MicroGuy |

Update! After months of testing, I am now convinced that MediaTemple is the best cloud hosting solution on Earth. Click here to try it for yourself!

Tonight, I finally decided to give Godaddy’s hosting another chance (I know, I’m a bonehead)  and test their new Grid hosting plan. That was not a very good idea. The initial configuration went smooth, but when I attempted to add another domain, a message appeared stating that economy accounts can point to root only.  This is not an economy account! Well I called the support line and after 30 minutes on hold was told that I would need to write a special script to get around this issue. The support guy (refused to give name when asked) suggested I look into Apache mod-rewrite!

The Godaddy website clearly states that Grid hosting supports unlimited domains and nowhere does it mention that they all must point to the same directory. There were several other issues regarding security ( I can browse the entire server using SSH FTP) and self-spawning directory aliases, but I’m in no mood to write an essay on everything that went wrong. It would take too long.

My advice, wait until this service gets into ‘Alpha’ before wasting your money. Strike that. My advice, run for the hills as fast as you can, far away from any of Godaddy’s hosting offerings before you fall victim to the bugfest.

Gospel of Thomas

MicroGuy | January 18, 2009

The Gospel of Thomas was recommended to me during a conversation with my dentist. Below is an except from a BBS presentation on the lost gospels. This is one of numerous “Gnostic Gospels” that date back to very early Christianity. This entire program is available here.

In many cases this results in the need to reboot computer to unlock the file. Well, I just found a neat program that is free and works great! Check out the Unlocker Here.

Steve Jobs’ Health

MicroGuy | January 14, 2009

It was distressing to hear the news come over the TwitterFox wire that Steve Jobs has taken a medical leave of Absence from Apple until July.  Apparently his health, the specifics of which are closely guarded, has taken a turn. Here’s hoping that Steve makes a full and speedy recovery.

Red Shoes

MicroGuy | January 1, 2009

This video features Travis Lawrence from “Stanton” and Heather Cole singing “Red Shoes”. It’s “positively” worth a look for the happy factor. The lead vocal and harmonies are just more icing on the cake. This video will make you smile. Enjoy!
